  • Most durable and best van I’ve owned!

We bought a new 2016 Ram Promaster City SLT passenger Wagon in July 2016. We were a little nervous as the vehicle was relatively new to Ram at that point. As I did some research, I found that it was basically a rebadged Fiat Doblo and Fiat has been selling these for years in Europe. It has actually won the European van of the year twice and they had sold over two million and it also was sold as a rebadged Vaxhaul and Opel. So that helped me overcome my fears of not being proven. It has proven to be one of the best vehicles we have owned. It’s very comfortable, very efficient, with extreme durability and utility and very low ownership/maintenance cost. Ours is a passenger wagon with seating for five, with a canvernous 4 foot by 4 foot cargo area with the rear seat in use, and nearly 7 by 4 with the rear seats folded down. It is engineered to haul as much weight as your average half ton pick up at a much lower price. It gets excellent fuel economy, thanks in part to its nine speed automatic and efficient 2.4 Chrysler made, Tiger Shark motor. This was built with commercial use in mind and as a result, all the materials are heavy duty and designed to withstand heavy constant use. We have had it for 3 years now and have no warranty repairs and no issues or broken parts and no break downs. Maintenance has consisted of just one synthetic oil change per year and nothing else. We get as high as 32 on the highway and even at 80 mph in our mountaines area we get 25 mpg or better. Overall this van has exceeded all expectations and performed flawlessly. I highly recommend it to families and or for business use as it will not disappoint.
  • Nothing fancy, very competent.

I have owned the (standard passenger version) City for about 5 months. Sticker price was about 26.5k, I paid about 21k total, including 7% tax. THINGS I DONT LIKE-- First gear can kind of surge, particularly when its cold. No spare tire unless you order as an option. Standard stereo not very good. The cup holders are not placed well. The horn beeps when you use the clicker to lock the car and there seems to be no easy way to disable this feature. THINGS I LIKE-- Best value. For the last half of 2017, Ram has been discounting the price of the City thru incentives much more than Ford has on the Transit. Relatively quiet, not luxury car quiet, but for a passenger capable cargo van, noise is not an issue. Responsive steering, handles well for a van, and good viability. Comfortable seats. Large, tall cargo area that has a low floor for easy access. Split rear seats fold forward easily. Gas mileage has been about 24 mpg in mostly suburban driving.

I got a smoking deal on this van $20500 Canadian dollars. I get great fuel economy and it has all the power I need. I bought this to create my own VW Microbus camper that I could use every day. I love it. The only criticism is the tranny can shift a little clunky due to the shifting dogs in the 9spd. The throttle can hesitate while it hunts for a gear. The ZF transmission is known for this, but it doesn't seem to effect it's reliability; it is more of a characteristic of how it shifts. It rides well and is very configurable. I got such a great deal on it. If drives nice, but the seats are just so-so. Handles well for a van and has lots of options for a cargo van. I hit an eagle on a trip and it dented the roof. I live in hail country so I hope I never get hit by that. I got a great deal on it, but I'd have gladly spent $2000 more just to get the same vehicle.
